Genevieve Motley

Did you always want to be a jewelry designer?
No, but I did always know I would end up in the design industry whether it was fashion, interior, graphic or jewellery. Absolutely love what I do!

What is your favorite jewelry trend at the moment?
Simple clean lines and geometric shapes.

Tell us about exhibiting at the Design Indaba?
It was such an overwhelming experience, everyone was so encouraging and supportive and as the only Durban jewellery designer there I was so taken aback by how welcoming and kind all the Cape Town designers were! Walking around the exhibit was an absolute feast for the eyes and I left feeling so inspired and proud to be a designer in South Africa.

Would you recommend Etsy as a sales outlet?
For me, Etsy has been a great platform to get noticed internationally and has led to me now supplying stores in Germany, New Zealand and Australia. I also love the interaction with people and the process of carefully wrapping up each little parcel and sending it across the world!

What is on your wish list?
A big comfy day bed to put in my sun room for lazy sunday afternoon reading.

What can’t you live without?
Tea, music, cuddles and the support of my family.

Who are your favorite SA crafters/designers/artists?
Kim Longhurst, Lauren Fowler, Ikhaya and Liesel Trautman.

Do you listen to music while you work, if so who/what is your favourite?
Absolutley, cant function without it! At the moment I’m loving Mumford & sons, Lana Del Rey and Gotye.

Do you collect anything?
Other than my ever growing cd, book and Frankie magazine collection, no.

What makes you really happy?
My baby girls smile, long walks on the beach with my husband and making an idea come to life.
