Ma Mére Maison (which roughly translates into My Mother's Kitchen) are Cape Town's go-to French Style Confectioners.  Business partners, Lexi Bechet and Di Spicer, have not only perfected more traditional recipes (their fudge is a classic!), but are putting a twist on old favourites with delicious results like mulled cider caramel, maple smoked bacon and salted macadamia nut nougat, olive oil nougat (which is best described as "elegant") and, my personal favourite, Cereal Milk macaroons... I recently collaborated with friend and designer Zano Sithetho of the Skorzch menswear brand that won the Renault New Talent search at SA Fashion Week in 2012. I popped in to see Anthea Pokroy's 'I collect gingers' exhibition, which she started collecting photos for back in 2010. It's an interesting show made up of 500 photographs, but after I stared at each ginger-haired participant in the face I started to feel quite watched, it was bizarre.
