I try and visit De Oude Bank Bakkerij every time I visit Stellenbosch. I love the relaxed environment and in my opinion they make the best pesto in the world. The shitaki mushroom pesto being my favourite.

The restaurant is owned by Fritz Schoon, who this week walked away with the Eat In award for Best Small Producer. Congrats Fritz! They are most famous for their artisan breads freshly baked on the premises. Fritz worked at Ile de Pain in Knysna to learn the craft of baking amazing breads.

They also sell all the breads on offer, the various pestos, jams and tapenades to take home with you.
