Tell us a bit about yourself… I’ve lived in Durban my whole life, Westville to be exact. I studied graphic design at the Durban University of Technology and I’m currently running my own studio.
You have a new exhibition with Working Class opening in Durban this Thursday, tell us a bit about it… The exhibition is a view into the art I do outside of my usual client work, the time I really get to experiment and play. The works are images portraying a couple of the ideas and thoughts that have flowed through my head the last couple of months. There’s drawings, prints, some painting, photos and even a few sculpture/objects I’ve worked on. It’s mostly quite personal and some of the work might give you a glimpse into the situations I find myself in.
How would you describe your style? Like a heavy feather.
Top 5 artists/designers that you love? Alan Fletcher, Mike Mills, Tibor Kalman, Hillman Curtis, Richard McGuire.
What music are you listening to at the moment? Right now The Doors – L.A. Woman is playing.
Who is your favorite SA band/musician? Thomas Krane has always given a good show, maybe with DJ Fuego Heat laying down the tracks late into the night.
Most interesting places you have travelled to recently? I recently did a trip to Namibia which blew me away. So much to see there, I actually wish I had more time. One minute you in the bush, the next minute you in the desert, the mountains, the ocean. On top of that, there is hardly anyone there.
Do you collect anything? Not really, I guess I collect a lot of books.
What’s on your wish list? That new Nikon D800 would be quite nice.
Where are your favourite places to visit and eat at in Durban? To visit would be the beach, this time of year especially. Perfect weather and good waves. To eat I would have to say I would choose a home cooked meal from my lady over anything, otherwise Corner Cafe is always a winner.
