Says Who is a 2 year old graphic design and illustration company based in Joburgm which is run by my friends Lauren Schultz, Nicholas Christowitz, and Shaun Hill. I sent them some questions the other day and they sent me answers and some nice examples of their nice work. Enjoy.

What do you guys do?
We focus on graphic design and illustration. So basically we make handsome things all day long for some pretty cool clients. From CI’s to album art to posters to print ads… you get the picture.

Can you draw anything anyone asks you to? And when I say anything, I mean anything, like can you draw a sausage dog eating a hotdog that looks like it’s wearing a horse costume, the hotdog not the sausage. Confused? So I am.
We totally can! Infact, we can top that! We’ll draw it in 3 different styles too…

Do you guys work as a team on every project or as individuals? How does it work?
It honestly depends on the job. Some jobs require a contribution from each of us, while others just work out better if one person does it. We constantly ask each other for input and advice if we are working on jobs separately.

Who or what are some of your influences?
As a collective we can definitely say that Johannesburg influences us in a big way. We love this place.
For me (Nick), It would definitely be other designers and illustrators. Being a young designer/illustrator, it’s important for me to look up to these people and tell myself “I’m going to be that good”. It’s motivational and inspirational.
Shaun: I love cartoons, anything on Cartoon Network. A bit of Monkeydust and Jeremy Fish and the people I spend my time with.
Lauren: My influences change all the time. I get very obsessive about stuff, and they become all I can think about for the next couple of weeks, and that definitely inspires my work in some way or another. At the moment it’s Gordon Ramsay, and the author David Nicholls. But like Nick said, other illustrators definitely play a part. Sometimes I’ll see a piece of work that just blows me away, and I have to start upping my game immediately.

Be honest, who is the real boss?
It’s a harmonious 3-way partnership. Seriously. But Nick does most of the admin stuff.
All decisions are voted upon… which is fun because Lauren and I get to call Shaun “THE MIGHTY DECIDER” when we disagree on things.
