Rosehurst – Pietermaritzburg

Recently I was told about this quaint cafe / garden / secondhand shop in Pietermaritzburg called Rosehurst that had an amazing setting I was sure to like. Turns out I did. The garden is currently under repair at the moment with it being winter and although the shop is a bit too much for my taste, the gardens are what make it for me. They just take you away from reality and plonk you right into a fairy tale. Next time I’m taking wine, a blanket and the wife.

Oh yeah… the cafe makes a mean peppermint crisp milkshake! So in summary, Rosehurst is a great place to unwind, shop for collectables or talk over a tasty lunch.

  1. Oh wow , I used to visit this garden during the midlands open gardens every year when it was a private home. It was spectacular! Moved away 10 years ago, so I didn’t know it was a restaurant/shop now. How nice to be able to visit it all year around.

  2. This is absolutely awesome – my dad lived here as a toddler with his family (it was his grandparents’ house) in the early 1960s . He has old photos of this house from the ’60s. We now live in Cape Town but it’s so cool that this has been featured here.
