Book of the Week: Tintypes by Jayne Hinds Bidaut

Tintype is a photographic method from the 1800′s- images are made by creating a direct positive on a sheet of iron metal that is blackened by painting, lacquering or enamelling and is used as a support for a collodion photographic emulsion. Photographs can be produced only a few minutes after the picture is taken and the method creates this amazing effect.   1. this, this is literally the coolest thing i’ve seen in a long time. i would love to take a class to learn how to make these. or just watch someone make them. or just have one.
