Last week I took a much needed break. I haven’t had time off for ages, so when the opportunity came to escape to Mozambique for a few days I jumped at it. I was planning on not even taking my camera but I’m glad I did. After resting for a few days I decided to mission and take a few portraits inspired by the recently departed for new experiences Kevin Goss-Ross. So armed with my enthusiastic wife, Lisa, as my “flash bitch” we headed to Ponta Malangane and shot some photos of the local vendors.
The lighting effects are very similar to Kevin’s work – seeing as he’s trademarked the single diffused strobist lighting technique which makes it very hard to shoot this way without feeling like you’re stepping on toes. So here’s a tribute of sorts. Happy adventures in Ireland Kevin and Sarah.

These are superb photos. I particularly like the one where the man is a wearing a straw hat. What lighting technique are you referring to exactly?
Thanks Zachary, basically just single off camera flash shot through an umbrella or softbox and cross light with the sun where possible. Fast and portable.
